September 2008
Dear German 1 Student,
This sheet will give you and your parents information about the German 1 class and how your grades will be determined.
Classwork:
Most lessons will follow the same pattern:
While you are at the computer, your teacher will be checking student worksheets and giving individual oral practice.
Homework:
Most of your homework will be learning homework. The last lesson of most school weeks will include a test on the 20 words for that week. You will need to prepare at home for this test by doing the online practice quizzes until you are confident you know the words. There will also be other written tests or shorter online tests of vocabulary or grammar for which you should prepare.
Occasionally you will be asked to finish a worksheet at home. Worksheets are not graded for grammar or spelling, but they prepare students for tests and must always be done to completion. (Please note that all worksheets are posted on the website.)
Please remember that you have been given the Themen workbook if you wish to do extra practice at home.
Grading:
Your performance in the grammar and vocabulary tests will be recorded and form part of your semester (and mid-semester) grades. You will also have end-of-unit oral and written tests following completion of each of the 5 Lektionen. The quantity and quality of your class oral work will influence your semester grade too.
You will end the school year with an oral and written test which, together with your work and grades through the year, will determine your German placement next year.
Ich wünsche dir viel
Spaß und viel Erfolg in deiner neuen Deutschklasse!
Mr. Shoebottom
