A: At the start of the play, by William Shakespeare, we learn that Caesar has won another war, and is now returning to Rome in triumph. Some citizens are unhappy that Caesar seems to want to be king, and while Caesar is riding through Rome, an old man comes up to tell him that his life will be in danger in the month of March. Casca tells Brutus and Cassius that Marc Anthony offered the crown to Caesar 3 times, but Caesar refused it each time. In this way Caesar has become even more popular with the Roman citizens.
B: Cassius and Brutus meet to discuss the problem of Caesar's growing power, and Cassius wants Brutus to help him get rid of Caesar. Cassius knows, however, that Brutus will only betray Caesar if he feels that it would be in the interests of Rome. For this reason he tricks Brutus by putting some false documents about Caesar outside his home. When Brutus reads these documents, at first he doesn't know what to do, but then he agrees to join with Cassius and the other conspirators to kill Caesar.
C: The night before he is assassinated, Caesar's wife Calpurnia has strange dreams and warns him not to go to the senate. But he ignores this and other warnings and enters the senate as usual. Soon he is attacked and killed by the knives of Brutus and the others. At Caesar's funeral, Brutus explains that he has killed Caesar for the love of Rome. But when Marc Anthony speaks, he persuades the people that Caesar was a good man who only wanted the best for Rome. The people become very angry with Brutus and the other conspirators and force them to leave Rome.
D: The Romans divide into 2 groups - with Marc Anthony, Octavius Caesar and Aemilius Lepidus on one side, and Brutus, Cassius etc. on the other. After some arguments, Cassius and Brutus separate, and after a misunderstanding Cassius kills himself. Brutus' men are discouraged by this and are defeated in a battle with Marc Anthony. Brutus then asks his friends to kill him, and when they refuse he falls on his sword and kills himself.
