Communism

Communists believe that the state should own and control the means of producing everything so that everyone can be equal.

Socialism

Socialists believe that rights are more important than freedom, but won't take freedom away.

Liberalism

Liberals believe that governments should have a balance between rights and freedom.

Conservativism

Conservatives believe that freedom is more important than rights. They think that the government should not have too much control over people's lives.

Fascism

Fascists believe in the importance of having a powerful dictator and state control. Nationalistic feelings are encouraged and political opposition is not allowed.

Radicals: Radicals believe that great social change is a good thing. Reactionaries: Reactionaries want to go back to 'better times'. They don't think ordinary people should have the vote.

  • totalitarian: the government has complete control over people's lives (both communism and fascism are totalitarian systems)
  • democracy: a system or country in which the people choose (elect / vote for) the government (both communists and fascists oppose democracy)
  • freedom: the power to do, say, think or write as you want
