The importance of comprehensible spoken language input
It is crucial that the spoken language that ESL students hear in the classroom is comprehensible to them for these reasons:
- A majority of the information that teachers disseminate to students in class is through the medium of spoken English.
- Most of the instructions that teachers give students in class are through the medium of spoken English.
- Oral input that is (made) comprehensible to ESL students is the major factor in the development of their English language competence.
